Story Synopsis
Tohru Honda, after having lost her father when she was younger, has recently lost her mother and was forced to live with her grandfather. Her grandfather decided to remodel his house to make room for more family members that were coming to live with them and asked Tohru if she could stay at a friend's house until the remodeling was finished. Excited to start living by herself, Tohru assured him that she could and decided to live in a tent.
She was unaware that she had placed her tent on the Sohma property. After being found by Yuki and Shigure Sohma, the two allowed her to come and live with them until the remodeling was complete. As she was shown around her new bedroom, Kyo Sohma bashed through the celing, wanting to fight Yuki. Afraid that he might actually hurt Yuki, Tohru tried to stop him, but instead tripped on a piece of wood and managed to stop her fall by hugging Kyo in the process. Smoke immediately appeared, bringing with it chaos and confusion. Tohru found herself staring at an angry cat when the smoke cleared away.
Tohru quickly found out that the Sohma family is under a cruel curse. Select members of the family are cursed by the Chinese zodiac spirits and because of that they can't be hugged by members of the opposite sex outside of the zodiac or else they'll transform. Knowing she may never be able to heall the wounds in their hearts, Tohru begins to live normally with them; changing the lives of the Sohmas forever.
