Episode 1: Sakura and the Mysterious Book

Sakura Kinomoto sleeps, dreaming of a mysterious book with a picture of a lion on the cover. As it opens, an image of her standing on a roof, overlooking a tower becomes clear. Cards are raining around her, and a flying stuffed animal is hovering next to her, staring at the tower. She jumps.

The alarm goes off, waking her immediately. Sakura hears her father calling that breakfast is ready. She swiftly begins her daily morning routine, promptly getting ready for school. Sakura bursts into the kitchen, and is greeted by her older brother, Touya, who accuses her of being a monster. Sakura launches into an attack on him, but Touya merely places his coffee mug on top of her head at arms length, avoiding her assault of punches. She imagines herself growing as large as a telephone pole and stomping on him. Just as Sakura pulls away from him, her father, Fujitaka, comes into view with Sakura's breakfast. After a few bites of her meal, Touya sets down his coffee mug and announces that he's leaving now due to early morning soccer practice. Fujitaka hands his son his lunch and wishes him well, but Sakura, wanting to go to school with her brother, quickly forces her breakfast down. Her father promptly hands her her lunch and after putting on her rollerblades and proper padding, she races out the door.

She turns quicky onto and adores the falling cherry blossoms. Squinting, she spots her brother and speeds toward him. He looks at her, telling her that she could've taken more time to eat her breakfast. Sakura looks down, embarrassed when suddenly Touya calls out for his friend, Yukito, who's waiting at the corner for the two. Sakura's eyes turn into hearts when he greets the two, and she stops near him, admiring her brother's friend. Yukito observes that she's up early and Touya side comments that she did eat breakfast in five minutes. Sakura quickly kicks her brother's leg hard, shutting him up before looking up at Yukito sweetly. The three continue to make their way to school; Sakura stealing glances toward Yukito. Suddenly, Yukito tells her goodbye and she looks up to see that she's already at her school - the highschool being next door. With a quick, "See you later", Yukito turns around and tosses her a piece of candy as he continues to make his way to the highschool. She catches the candy, looking longingly at it.

Her friend, Tomoyo, appears next to her as Sakura gazes at Yukito's fading image. She mentions how cool it was for Yukito to do that, surprising Sakura, who hadn't seen her appear. As the two put on their school shoes, Tomoyo goes on about how cute Sakura looked, wishing she had caught that moment on videotape. Mentioning about videotaping reminds Tomoyo that she has a new camcorder. Sakura tries to persuade Tomoyo to film something more interesting than her, but Tomoyo insists that Sakura is the most interesting and cutest thing ever before walking off to class.

In class, Sakura daydreams about the dream she had, doodling the stuffed animal she had seen. She wonders if the girl she had seen in her dream was in fact her. Even during cheerleading practice, Sakura can't seem to shake off the dream. While she's in the middle of practicing with the baton, she dreams that her baton transforms into a pink want. Catching her off guard, the baton promptly hits her head.

Returning home, Sakura hears a noise from the basement, which is also her father's study. She quickly wonders why this is happening now when nobody else is home. Clutching her baton, she hesitantly makes her way toward the door and opens it. She cautiously lurks around, looking for the person who might be causing the noise. She finds no one, and lets out a sigh when suddenly she spots a book glowing. When she arrives at the book, it stops glowing and she grabs it. 'The Clow' it's labeled on the spine and she drops her baton in surprise when she realizes that it was this book that she saw in her dream. Suddenly, the book unlocks itself, surprising her again. She carefully opens it, noticing the cards. Picking one up, she spots one and begins to try to say its name. She doesn't realize that there's a gust of wind brewing around her feet. When she finally says the name 'Windy' a huge gust of wind blows all the cards, except the one she's holding, away and out of the house. Sakura drops the books and collapses.

The book begins to glow again, scaring her. Out of the book appears the stuffed animal she had seen in her dreams. He opens his eyes and tells her hello. She snatches him out of midair, looking around him in search of a battery pack, wondering how the voice was coming out. He struggles out of her grip and tells her that he's not a toy, but rather the beast of the seal of the Clow Book. He further explains that it's his job that the cards don't do anything bad, but then stops when he realizes that the cards are gone. She hands him Windy, which delights him. He asks for the other cards but when she explains what happened, he becomes irritated.

Sakura races through dinner that night and runs to her room with her dessert. She gives it to Keroberos, the Beast of the Seal. He explains that it's vital for them to find all the cards because when set loose, a catastrophe will befall the world. He then goes on that it was his job to make sure that nothing happened to them. Sakura asks him why he wasn't doing his job when he reveals he fell asleep for thirty years; Sakura realizes that the noises she heard must've been his snores. Getting back on subject, Kero announces that she's going to help him return the cards back into the book because she's the one who scattered them in the first place and because she was able to open the book, she had to have some sort of magical powers. After getting her name, he begins to do a chant. The same wand she had dreamed of seeing during her baton practice appears before her, and Kero announces that she has to grab it. Grabbing it, he announces that it's a birth of a cardcaptor!

The two argue about her becoming a cardcaptor; Sakura doesn't want to do it and quicky announces she's not even capable when suddenly a huge gust of wind comes from the window. The two look out to spot a large flying bird. Kero announces that it's the Fly card and the two race off after it. The bird flaps its wings, flinging Sakura away, but Kero quickly catches her. He tells her that she has to use magic to capture Fly. Sakura unlocks the key of Clow, her wand, and flinging herself onto the back of Fly, Sakura quickly uses Windy. Windy binds Fly down, enabling Sakura to capture it. Kero flies down and congratulates her, but Sakura merely cries about how she thought she was going to die. Kero tells her to use the card; Sakura asks what it does, but he insists she try it out. Using it, she finds that she's able to fly on her wand. Kero goes on about how it's great to work with his new cardcaptor, launching the two into another argument about how she never agreed to do it as the two fly over Tomoeda.
