Syaoran is a descendant of Clow Reed. At the age of three, he was put through martial arts training. Ever since he was little, Syaoran has always shown little emotion. In the beginning, the closest he'd get to a smile would be a smirk. Throughout the show, Syaoran does start to open up. Like Sakura, Syaoran is also naive and gullible which is proven again and again when he falls for Takashi's stories, contrary to his mature nature. Because he'll be leader of his clan, he feels the need to be best, and therefore can be quite competitive.
Syaoran's debut made him seem more like an enemy than a friend. At first, he was sent to Tomoeda to capture all the cards, and he went about it by trying to force Sakura to give hers up. Eventually, he does admit defeat and soon aids her, rather than compete.
In Hong Kong, Syaoran lives in a luxurious house with his mother and four sisters. While he resides in Tomoeda, he lives in an apartment with his "butler", Wei. Meiling does come and live with him for some time when she's in Tomoeda as well.
