Tohru Honda

Tohru Honda is a kind, carefree, naive girl who constantly puts others before herself. Because she's always thinking of others, she causes more trouble and seems to constantly carry everyone's troubles with her. It pulls her down, but she still manages to put a smile on her face for others.

She works at an apartment complex, which Momiji's father currently owns. There, she's part of the cleaning crew. Tohru loves to clean, which is great for the rest of the staff, who insist that since she started working at the apartment complex, their work load seems lighter.

Tohru currently lives with Shigure, Kyo, and Yuki. Her mother died in a car accident and her father had already died due to sickness when she was younger. Orphaned, she had been living with her grandfather (her father's father) until he asked if she would stay somewhere until the remodeling on his house would be completed. Tohru didn't want to impose her stay on her friends so she decided to live in a tent in some woods that, she soon discovered, belonged to the Sohmas. Shigure and Yuki found her there and insisted she live with them. She found she was happier being with the Sohmas, so when construction was finished on her grandfather's house, they allowed her to stay with them on the condition that she takes care of the house.

At school, Tohru is an average student. She studies hard, but she still manages to fail a few tests. Her two best friends are Arisa Uotoni and Saki Hanajima.

One of her worst fears is that in the end, she'll be alone. Because she's already lost so many around her, Tohru fears anything that will take anyone else away from her. That's why she's overprotective when it comes to colds - her father died from a severe cold. With her bright smile, nobody except Isuzu understands how fragile Tohru really is. It is this dark fear, that quietly eats away at Tohru's heart.

She's the only one outside of the Sohma family that even knows about the Zodiac curse that surrounds and eats away at the Sohmas. Around volume 13, Tohru decided that she'd try to break the curse that plagues those that are possessed so that they can be with the ones that they love.
