Chapter 002: InuYasha Revived
The centipede demon continues to chase Kagome through the forest of InuYasha, ordering Kagome to give her the Shikon no Tama. Confused, Kagome tells her that she doesn't have it, provoking an attack from the demon. Kagome falls to the ground to dodge it, and hears a voice asking her what she's doing with such a weak opponent. Irritated, Kagome looks up, surprised to see that the boy who was pinned to the tree she saw earlier was awake and talking. The boy demands that she settle this with a single blow, but calls her Kikyo. Frustrated, she begins to correct him, but he looks up at the sky, stating that the centipede demon is coming.
The centipede demon grabs Kagome instantly, but is pulled away from the villagers' arrows. The boy is disappointed to see that "Kikyo" didn't defend herself. Having enough, Kagome tells him that he's mistaking her for someone else. He argues back that she smells the same as Kikyo, but suddenly stops and sniffs again, and becomes surprised that she isn't Kikyo. The boy, InuYasha, seems a bit flustered and mutters about how Kikyo was more beautiful and intelligent looking. While the two argue, the centipede demon fights off the villagers and grabs Kagome again. In an effort to save herself, Kagome grabs InuYasha's front tresses of hair. The villagers look on, surprised that InuYasha has awakened.
The centipede demon states that she'll devour Kagome whole, Shikon no Tama and all. Intrigued at hearing Shikon no Tama, InuYasha looks on curiously. As the demon comes closer toward Kagome, she thrusts her hand toward the demon, breaking some of the demon's arms off. Surprised, Kagome studies her hand, not noticing that the angrier demon, heads toward her. In retaliation, the demon takes a bite out of Kagome's side, releasing the Shikon no Tama. The villagers and InuYasha look on, surprised that it came out of her. Kagome stares at the jewel that had fallen on the ground near her, surprised that such a thing came out of her. InuYasha tells her that the jewel is his and she should hand it over, but the centipede demon ensnares Kagome to InuYasha on the tree. Intrigued, the centipede demon asks if he's the half-demon InuYasha she heard about who was seeking the jewel. The demon furthur taunts him by telling him that he's sealed to the tree with the arrow, and devours the jewel in front of him.
The demon's fake identity tears off, revealing a more hideous form. Her fallen arms, reattach themselves onto her, and she furthur strangles InuYasha and Kagome on the tree. InuYasha asks if Kagome can pull the arrow out of his heart, but Kaede tells her that she shouldn't break the seal. InuYasha tells her that if he isn't free, they'll all be centipede bait and asks Kagome if she wants to die. Kagome, not wanting to die and yet confused at the whole situation, takes the chance and frees InuYasha. The arrow vanishes into thin air. InuYasha jumps into the air and with one strike of his claws, the demon is killed. Pieces of the demon are scattered everywhere; Kaede tells Kagome if she can see a piece of glowing flesh, because that is where the jewel is. If she doesn't take the jewel out, the demon will just revive herself again and again. Hearing the sharp sounds emitting from the discarded pieces, Kagome quickly makes her way over to the glowing piece of flesh and extracts the jewel. She is told that the Shikon no Tama is a jewel that makes demons stronger. InuYasha tells her that it's useless to humans and threatens that if she doesn't hand the jewel over, she's going to die.
