Chapter 005: Kagome's Arrow
Villagers go on about their business. One notices a bird in the sky, but as the demonic crow comes closer, they all begin to panic. A mother and son look behind them, wondering what all the commotion is about. Suddenly, the crow snatches up Kokichi, the little boy. InuYasha and Kagome come close behind. Kagome hopes that the crow won't kill the child, but InuYasha relishes on the fact that because the crow is carrying something, it will slow down its movements. Kagome believes that he should protect the child first before ripping it apart. Just as InuYasha was about to hit the crow, Kagome snatched the child away from the crow. Changing his attention to Kagome and the child, the crow begins to attack the two but InuYasha quickly shreds it.
The two plop safely down on the ground. Kagome picks off part of the crow's claw off the child, ignoring the parts coming back together. InuYasha gets her attention again, demanding to know where the Shikon no Tama is. She spots it under the wings. InuYasha attempts to stop the fleeing crow, but he misses. Knowing she has to do something quickly, Kagome quickly ties an item onto an arrow and shoots it toward the crow. InuYasha sees that the crow's leg is attached to it. Because of the Shikon on Tama's regenerative powers, he assumes that it should return to the body for sure.
The arrow hits the crow right under the wings. A bright light fills the sky. Back in Kaede's village, Kaede watches in fear, knowing that the light will definitely pose a problem. Kagome and InuYasha race on through the forest, searching for the Shikon no Tama. Suddenly, the crow's head comes flying toward InuYasha. He quickly squishes its head and something shiny pops out. Kagome picks it up, wondering if the tiny shard could be the jewel. Studying it, Kagome realizes that the shard is actually a fragment of the jewel. InuYasha looks on, horrified.
Later that night, Kagome and InuYasha sit in Kaede's house as she explains what happened. She tells the two that the jewel may have scattered into ten or a hundred pieces. Still, even a piece of the jewel in the hands of a demon could be the beginning of a disaster. Kagome sits, worrying that it was all her fault that the jewel broke. Waking her from her thoughts, Kaede announces that the two have to team up to find all the pieces of the jewel. InuYasha tries to talk his way out of it, but Kaede brushes it off. Kagome, shocked, wishes that she could go home.
