Chapter 008: The Return
Kagome lays on her bed, thinking how unreal it feels to have been in the Feudal Era until a little while ago. Her thoughts wander back toward Yura. Kagome assumes that Yura was after the jewel the entire time. She suddenly sits up, thinking that InuYasha is going to be really angry when he finds out what happened to it, but the she stops after she remembers how disgusting she is to him and how he said he'll do everything on his own. Clapping her hands, she decides that she's never going back again and she'll just forget the entire thing happened.
At dinner, Souta questions if the well is ever going to open again. His grandfather reassures him that the well has been sealed by the blessed ofudas and that no demon or monster will ever come through it. He then adds that Kagome should have faith in his spiritual abilities, but when he looks over, she's too happy to see that it's oden on the table and hasn't been listening. She thinks that she lives in such a wonderful world and just as she's about to dig in InuYasha comes in. The family looks blankly at him, but Kagome casually turns around. InuYasha stares dangerously at her, asking her who said she could just go home when she felt like it. Confused, Kagome stutters how he came here and where. InuYasha screams at her that he came through the well, but her grandfather tells him that it must be a lie because he had sealed it himself. InuYasha grabs an ofuda that had been stuck to him and tells him that the seal didn't work, shocking Grandfather. InuYasha grabs Kagome and begins to walk out with her (though Kagome is trying to fight back) when Kagome's mother stops them. She goes up to InuYasha and questions if his ears are real and begins to twitch them. Souta, standing next to her demands that he get a turn to. As she's standing, annoyed that her mother and brother could be doing something like that at a time like this, Kagome notices strands of hair on InuYasha's sleeve. She grabs them and notices that they're moving, though InuYasha still can't see them. Wondering if they could be Yura's hairs after noting that nobody else could see what caused the sudden wound to her hand, she runs toward the well. She finds that a wave of hair is making its way out of the well. InuYasha watches her, muttering that Kaede was right - Kagome can see the hair as well. Kagome turns around angrily, telling him that he brought the hairs with him. Shutting the shrine door so her family won't get hurt, she decides that she must do something to stop the hairs from coming into this world. A wave of hair begins attacking the two and though Kagome dodges the ones that attack her, InuYasha gets caught. Her family demands that she open up the shrine door, but Kagome watches as InuYasha cuts strands of hair only for it to grow back again. She suddenly spots the main strand coming out the well and tells InuYasha to cut it. After he's unable to because he can't see it, she grabs the strand, cutting her hand. Her blood falls along a bit of the hair, and finally being able to see it, InuYasha cuts it and the wave of hair finally falls. Confused that Yura would be attacking like that since she has the jewel fragment, Kagome realizes that she's targeting both her and InuYasha. Not wanting her family to get hurt, she demands that they go back, though she really doesn't. InuYasha places his red outer robe over her head. She looks up at him and he explains that the robe is stronger than most armor because it's made from the fur of the fire rat; she should wear it because her skin is so frail. The two then jump down the well together.
In a cave littered with skulls that still have hair on them, Yura tells one that they're coming. She should give them a proper welcome.
