Volume Summaries
The following summaries are taken directly from the summary given on the backs/descriptions of the VIZ version of the manga itself.
Volume 01
Once in the past, Kagome discovers that she wasn't pulled into the past by accident - her very life is linked to the events of hundreds of years past by the mystical Shikon Jewel, or "Jewel of Four Souls." Is Kagome really the reincarnation of the priestess who once guarded the jewel? The same one who nearly killed InuYasha...?
Volume 02
Now that InuYasha is bound to a spell to Kagome, he has to help her find the shattered pieces of the jewel. But that's not the only challenge these two will face - the half-demon InuYasha has a personal battle to fight, against his own half-brother, Sesshomaru!
Volume 03
InuYasha has a new weapon to aide him as he and Kagome fight to reclaim the Shikon Jewel - his demon-father's great sword Tetsusaiga, or "Steel-Cleaving Fang." But the Tetsusaiga has an odd quirk for a demonic weapon - it can only be wielded in defense of humanity, a feature which becomes useful when InuYasha and Kagome come across a princess in need of rescue...
Volume 04
Coming to the aid of a young fox-demon, InuYasha and Kagome face off against a pair of demon brothers, Hiten and Manten, whose already awesome powers have been boosted even more by the shards of the Shikon Jewel. Then, Kagome returns to present-day Japan, only to find herself in the middle of an eerie ghost story. Can Kagome - alone - save the lost soul of a little girl from being dragged into hell...?
Volume 05
As a half-breed with a human mother, InuYasha has always been different from other demons, but Kagome never realized just how different until the rising of the new moon reveals InuYasha's most carefully protected secret. Worse yet, a hideous ogress plans to resurrect Kikyo, the priestess who "killed" InuYasha all those years ago, using the dead woman's bones...and Kagome's soul!
Volume 06
Resurrected by magic, the priestess Kikyo has been changed by her journey through death. Will her thirst for vengeance against InuYasha also doom Kagome? And will InuYasha be able to choose between these two - the woman he once loved, or the girl who carried her reincarnated soul? Then, we meet a Buddhist priest named Miroku who carries within him his own little corner of hell...
Volume 07
InuYasha's half-brother, the demon Sesshomaru, might have been beaten back by his younger sibling the first time, but when he returns with new, stronger powers, can InuYasha defeat him a second time? Then, the demon Naraku launches another attack, but this time, Kaede's memories may have uncovered the demon's secret...
Volume 08
What has become of the priestess, Kikyo? Brought back to life by a horrible ogress, she is but a reanimated corpse without a soul, roaming the world in search of meaning. Can she find a purpose in this new life, or does her soulless state doom her to forever thirst for revenge against the one who made it impossible for her to rest - InuYasha?
Volume 09
It isn't only demons who can gain power from the Shikon Jewel, as Kagome, InuYasha, and their companions find out when they fall afoul of the hideous "Peach Man," who plans to make them all into dinner! Then, we meet a village of warriors dedicated to fighting the demons the Shikon Jewel creates...and tragedy isn't long in following...
Volume 10
Trained from birth to kill demons, the warrior-maiden Sango is turned against InuYasha by Naraku, the crafty demon whose manipulations have tormented the heroic group time and time again. Will Sango finally realize that Naraku is her true enemy, or will InuYasha pay the ultimate price at the hands of this expert demon hunter?
